EN 14058: Protective clothing for cold environments

Category 1 PPE: minor risks.

For protection against the effects of cold environments at temperatures above −5 °C.

Jobs concerned with cold environments :

  • Installation and maintenance of electricity and telecommunications networks
  • Maintenance of green spaces
  • Public works
  • Airport staff
  • Forklift operator
  • Road maintenance technician

Performance levels 5 indices :

  • Thermal resistance class (Rct) – 4 classes, with 4 being the best level
  • Air permeability class (wind passage) (AP) – 3 classes, with 3 being the best level
  • Mobile mannequin thermal insulation value (Icler) Mandatory if thermal resistance (Rct) class 4, otherwise optional
  • Static mannequin thermal insulation value (Icle) – (optional)
  • Water penetration resistance class (WP) – (optional)

Design of EN 14058 standard clothing :

  • Jackets, coats and overalls must be able to be closed up to the neck or collar.
  • Jackets and coats must be long enough to cover the top of the trousers.
  • External pockets intended for use in wet conditions must be able to be closed.
  • Fastenings, such as zips, clips, buttons, etc., must not open unexpectedly.
