Category 1 PPE: minor risks.
This standard defines the requirements for labelling clothing intended to protect the wearer from exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB).
Only areas covered by the garment are protected.
The protection provided by the garment may decrease with wear or when it is stretched or damp.
This standard is often associated with the 20471 High Visibility standard.
The effectiveness of these garments is indicated by an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating, similar to sunscreen. It ranges from 15 to 50+ depending on the level of protection provided. The higher the rating, the more radiation is blocked and the better the skin is protected against sunburn.
